The Old Covenant vs The New Covenant

Hey All!

Happy Wednesday!

This Week’s Devotional Looks at God’s Covenant with his Children and All that believe in him.

The Old Covenant and The New Covenant

What is It?

Old Covenant

Ref Genesis 17:1-15

The covenant that God made with Abraham is the old covenant. This covenant is the covenant of circumcision (of every male child). This covenant was between Abraham, God and Abraham’s seed.

New Covenant

Ref Galatians 3:13-17, 26-29

The new covenant is the convent of Christ Jesus. In Christ is the new covenant; his death and resurrection, the shedding of his blood, all signifies and symbolizes the new covenant. This covenant says that all who accept Jesus in faith is a child of God.

What Does It Mean?

Old Covenant

Ex: 1 Samuel 17: 26, 36, 46

The old covenant means that Abraham and his seed are a special people, they are God’s people and He is with them. As seeds of Abraham, the Israelites continue in God’s covenant with them, they will remain a blessed people. God promised to multiply and bless them if they remain obedient.

Ref Deu 28:1

New Covenant

Ex: Hebrew 8:6

Faith in Jesus, accepting Him, makes you a child of God and therefore part of the Abrahamic promise. As children of God we inherit the blessings of Abraham and more because of Christ. The covenant of the blood of Jesus Christ sets us free from sin, death, sickness and disease and the power of the devil. In the new covenant we inherit so much more as children of God. God puts his Law in our hearts and minds by his spirit through Christ.

Ref Hebrews 8:6, 10-13.

Here is More to Think On--- Hope your spirit is inspired

What does the new covenant mean to the average believer? What does it mean to me or you or anyone?

Here are A few Reference verses to think about!

• John 16:33

• Revelation 12:11

The new covenant says that I am a child of God and therefor I inherit the blessings of Abraham and more. In the new covenant I am covered by the blood of Jesus. Because the blood of Jesus is on me as a child of God I overcome every evil by the power that is in the blood of Jesus. The power of sin and death, the power of sickness and disease and the power of the wicked one all have no more hold over me. As a believer, in the new covenant there is a new strength that comes into my life and that keeps me from the way of the world, darkness and evil. In accepting Jesus Christ, God releases his spirit to us and covers us by the blood of Jesus Christ. As Philippians 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Christ is the new covenant and in it we overcome --- we as believers inherit so much more as children of God.
