God of Judgment and Mercy

Hi All!

Welcome to another Devotional Wednesday!

The Theme of this month is...

God of Judgment and Mercy

Scripture: Genesis 19 -> The Story of Lot and the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah

Observation: God is a very merciful God, but also Just, a God of Judgment. In the  Story of Sodom and Gomorrah how God rendered judgment against the wicked cities; we can see how much God hates sin. Because the two cities were laden with sin, God being the great Judge he had to make an example of it to bring glory to  his name. Abraham pleaded with God to spare any found righteous in the cities; but God was displaying his righteous judgment against sin because not even a few were found righteous. Abraham also pleaded with God over these cities because of his nephew, Lot. and his family. God was very patient with Lot and his fami..ly, They were warned many times; But they didn’t listen  and follow through as instructed. God was still and very merciful with Lot and family; even with their stubborn, hesitant and fearful self. God is a God of Judgment and we see this for example with Lot’s wife she was disobedient because she loved her old life more than God. Lot and his wife were warned and instructed not to look back as they ran out of the cities ( Lot’s wife was turned into a pillar of salt). We must Love God more than our lives because materialism and anything we dote or value more than God is a form of idolatry.

Application to Life: God’s mercy is so evident when we look at our lives. I have seen the greatness of God’s mercy upon my life; as he has delivered me time and time again and has proved faithful even when I was not. There is a consequence to every sin, and although God is merciful he is also a God of Justice. Therefore we must learn to be more obedient.

Prayer: Ever merciful God, grant me to know you more, your ways and to have a heart of obedience, in Jesus name.
